2,000 ballot boxes carry by ISAF to Kabul for audit process

KABUL: (Middle East Press) The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has transported almost 2,000 ballot boxes from northern Balkh and eastern Ghazni province to capital Kabul for the audit purposes.

The wide-ranging audit of the votes from the runoff presidential election kicked off in Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan on Thursday.

Just about 8.1 million votes are expected to be audited under the supervision of observers from the European and other national and international institutions will monitor the audit work.

ISAF has said around 14,700 more ballot boxes are expected to be transported to capital Kabul using the alliance’s airlift resources over the next 7 to 10 days.

The audit follows an agreement between the two Presidential candidates, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Dr. Ashraf Ghani – facilitated by the US Secretary of State, John Kerry – on the complete audit of the 14 June run-off results.

Both candidates have devoted to participating in and remaining by the result of the audit.

This inclusive and thorough, internationally-observed audit provides the way to reinforce the credibility of the country’s electoral process and acceptance of the run-off results by both campaigns and all Afghans, with the final goal of helping Afghanistan on its path to a peaceful, stable, combined and wealthy future.
