24 Polling Stations Cleared of Security threats: MoI

KABUL: (MEP) – The Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoI) has announced 24 polling sites previously faced serious insurgent threats have now been cleared.

Based on the previous report of security agencies, 366 polling stations across the country were faced with serious terrorist threats.

However, the interior ministry reported Sunday that 60 operations conducted over the past ten days, clearing 24 polling sites of insurgent presence.

MoI spokesman told reporters that most of the reopened polling sites are located in northern Sar-i-Pul province.

Siddiq Siddiqi noted strong efforts were underway to thwart security threats to the remaining polling stations.

“We are going to launch further operations throughout the country to clear the remaining polling sites of insurgents,” Siddiqi said.

The election commission welcomes the interior ministry efforts but denies possibility of opening of polling stations in the most restive areas.
