31 million dollars to be paid for improving agriculture: Asif Rahimi

KABUL: (MEP) – Due to completion of 485 development agriculture programs, the development budget for the next year has increased by 100% according to officials of the ministry of agriculture and livestock.

Asif Rahimi, minister of agriculture and livestock, said, “The budget for the agriculture programs have increased to $32 million dollars more than the past year.”

Mr. Rahimi considers the rejection of the proposed budget by parliament to be a demand to bring about an increase in the budget for the ministry of agriculture.

Abdul Jabbar Taqwa, Kabul governor, expressed satisfaction from the projects of ministry of agriculture and said, “All the projects of the ministry of agriculture have been completed in consultation with cooperatives, farmers and governors.”

The ministry of agriculture has spent 70 % of its development budget in the current year. But with all efforts that have been made, Afghanistan has not yet been able to achieve self-sufficiency in wheat production. Achieving self-sufficiency in the production of wheat remains a key objective of the agricultural ministry, Ariana news reported.
