KABUL: (MEP) – A Taliban named district chief and three of his subordinates were killed and 29 others arrested during a security forces operation in northwestern province of Konduz, an official said Monday.
The operation was conducted in Gortepa—a district at the outskirts of the provincial capital Konduz last night, during which four insurgents including their leading district chief were killed, police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Husaini told reporters.
A Taliban designated Chardara district chief, Qari Latif, had been reported to be involved in killing two policemen, planning suicide attacks and coordinating militant activities in the province, said the spokesman.
The wounded militants and their leader had been taken to the provincial hospital, said Husanini.
On Monday morning, 17 fighters were arrested in the Kolabi forest of Chahar Dara district and six Taliban were captured during an operation in the Arbab Zarghon area of Dash-i-Archi district, he said.
Rejecting the statement, Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid claimed 4 Afghan Local Policemen (ALP) including a commander were killed and five others injured in an ambush in the restive Chahar Dara district, and elsewhere in Dasht-e-Archi district several policemen along with their commander have been killed and wound, Mujaheed claimed.
