83 kills in Kandahar-Herat highway clashes
KABUL: (MEP) – According to local authorities in western Herat province of Afghanistan, at least 83 people including 72 militants and 11 Afghan security forces were killed following clashes on Kandahar-Herat highway, khaama reported.
The officials further added that the clashes took place on Sunday in Chakab area fo Gulistan district, after militants ambushed a convoy of the Afghan Public Protection Force (APPF).
The clashes started late Sunday evening and continued until Monday morning, leaving at least 72 militants and 11 public protection forces dead, the officials said, adding that five public protection fores vehicles were also torched by militants.
Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the incident and the alleged death of their militants.
Kabul-Kandahar and Kandahar Herat highway is one of the volatile highways of the country where militants are frequently carrying out insurgency activities.
Top government officials of Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Zabul and Kandahar provinces also met on the same the day the incident took place, to discuss new plans in order to maitain security on one of the main highways of the country, Kabul-kandahar highway.
