‘Foreign elements’ behind Afghan war: Karzai

KABUL: (MEP) – President Hamid Karzai in a meeting with hundreds of youth on Saturday said his nation was fully awake of what was going on in Afghanistan and the region and what was behind the turmoil trying his country, Wakht reported.

Speaking about 500 youth in a meeting held in Salam Khana Palace, the president pointed to the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the US reiterating that the pact would be in the interest of the Afghans if their conditions were lodged in the content.

“US and NATO presence in the country under the Afghans conditions was in their interest after the combat mission was set to be pulled out by 2014”, Karzai said adding the first interest was ensuring peace and security.

“We have accurate analysis from the situation in the region and know who are behind the country’s destruction, sending suicide bombers and insecurity into our country and that what the role of the US in this respect is.”

The president said: “We ask the US for making its stance clear before Afghanistan, what is the definition of the terrorism, who is the enemy, and whom we are fighting, are the beguiled Taliban the enemy of our faith and villages.”

According to the president, the enemy was outside the country, where plots are schemed against the Afghans and where the main centers of Afghanistan’s instability and a conspiracy being launched against the country democratic system.

“We don’t have enemy and destructor inside our country, but the destructors are outside the country. And our definition from terrorism turns to the areas outside the country’s borders and regional and international collusions”, Karzai said.

The main element of the country’s destruction had root outside the country as there are some circles seeking their interests and the solution should also be sought beyond the border, the president reiterated.

The president rejected any confusion the people felt after 2014 by which the foreign forces will leave the country. “This is only a rumor launched by the foreigners to show us weak and needy.”

When asked about the Pakistan rocket attack on the Afghan soil, the president said his country was not on a similar feedback, but wants to solve the problem through a diplomatic dialogue and added that he had discussed the issue with the Pakistani prime minister through a written a letter.

Meanwhile, a number of the youth wanted to take part in the consultative Loya Jerga and other great national decision making issues, with the president accepting their suggestions.

About the BSA, he asked wither he had discussed it with the UN and other important nations, the president said: “We are in contact with the whole world countries, with the countries with good/or no-good relations with the US including Russia and China. We had not only discussed with them on the security and defense pacts but also negotiated on the strategic treaty and sought their stances in this field.”

The president in a question blamed the Qatar office an unsuccessful great conspiracy under the Islamic Emirate against Afghanistan and once again called on the Taliban to return home and stay with authority in own soil.
