Mohaqiq resigns from Afghan parliament due to presidential Election

KABUL: (MEP) – Rendering to the latest reports, Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of Hezb-e-Wahdat Islami (Islamic Unity Party) of Afghanistan, and a senior member of the national front of Afghanistan has resigned from Afghan parliament.

Mohaqiq has confirmed that the reason behind resignation from parliament was due to elections activities for the forthcoming presidential run-off, scheduled earlier next year, Khaama reported.

This comes as a member of the electoral alliance of Afghanistan on Monday said that Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq will run for 2014 presidential elections together with Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.

The official speaking on the condition of anonymity said that Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq and Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal have been nominated for the vice-president position.

Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal is one of the promiment members of Hezb-e-Islami (Islamic Party of Afghanistan), and is currently leading the council of Islamic party of Afghanistan.

In the meantime, Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq on Monday said that negotiations are in progress with Dr. Abdullah Abdullah regarding his nomination as second vice-president, however, they have not reached to an agreement so far.
