Pope Francis Says ‘Not Right To Link Terrorism With Islam’
MEP: Pope Francis has said on Sunday he was completely disagree to identify Islam with violence and terrorism because that would be unfair and not true.
“I don’t think it is right to identify Islam with violence. This is not just and it is not true,” he told reporters on Sunday.
“Terrorism grows when there is no other option, and as long as the world economy has at its center the god of money and not the person, “ the pope added as he returned to the Vatican from a five-day visit in Poland. “This is fundamental terrorism, against all humanity.”
When asked why he didn’t describe the priest’s murder and other attacks as Islamic terrorism, Francis replied he won’t do that because “it’s not right to identify Islam with violence. It’s not right and it’s not true.”
“I think that in nearly all religions there is always a small fundamentalist group,” he said, adding “We have them,” referring to Catholicism.
“I don’t like to talk about Islamic violence because every day when I look at the papers I see violence here in Italy – someone killing his girlfriend, someone killing his mother-in-law. These are baptised Catholics,” he said.
“If I speak of Islamic violence, I have to speak of Catholic violence. Not all Muslims are violent,” he noted.
Stating he has spoken with imams, he concluded: “I know how they think, they are looking for peace.”
