Pasaband District Under Heavy Siege Due To People’s Cooperation With Taliban

MEP: Ghor provincial council says that because of cooperation of people with the armed Taliban in Pasaband district, the district is under heavy Taliban’s siege and it is roads are fully blocked.

Mohammad Mahdawi, a member of the council told the Middle East Press, a large number of Pasaband people are the armed Taliban’s members and cooperate with them.

He said the public support has caused the district to completely surround by the Taliban and capture its office buildings.

Mahdawi stated all roads in the district are also blocked by the group and no public employee can travel through the land in the district.

All supplies of security forces in the government-controlled area carried through the air and the armed Taliban are in control of all roads, he added.

He stressed that if large-scale operations and basic supplies to security forces in the district do not arrive, the district as a whole will fall.

However, Mahdawi explained that currently there is no movement by the armed Taliban and security forces as well as opposition are each in their positions.

Meanwhile, Abdul Hai Khatibi, spokesman for the governor of Ghor in an interview with the Middle East Press, confirmed the roads of Pasaband district were blocked but expressed ignorance about people’s cooperation with the Taliban.

He said that local authorities are trying to set up large-scale operations, and clear out the district of the Taliban.
