Explosion Kills District Governor For Khaak Safed

MEP: As a result of a remote-controlled bomb blast in Khaak Safed District of Farah Province, district chief of the district was killed, an official said on Tuesday.

Iqbal Baher, Farah police spokesman told the Middle East Press, the incident took place at around 6:00 am this morning (7 February) in Chahar Bagh village, the provincial capital.

He said the incident arose from a roadside bomb explosion that resulted in the death of Abdul Khaliq Noorzai, District governor of Khaak Safed. No other casualties were reported in the blast, he added.

Baher further added that initial reports indicate that Mr Noorzai was walking to the district when targeted.

Further investigations are underway.

The armed Taliban group claimed responsibility for the attack.
