Existence of grave sites against road projects in Herat Province

KABUL: (MEP) – as many as 13 construction sites has been blocked due to the existence of old graves.

Ulema Council has been reportedly consulted over this matter and asked to relocate the graves that are 30 years old with no historic information.

The Council has agreed that the municipality should refrain from removing graves and instead find other possible solutions to the problems, Pajhwok News reported.

Meanwhile, some archaeologists said religious scholars should not impede road projects and should allow for relocation of the graves, adding that the availability of modern technology allows for relocation of graves without affecting their archaeological aspects.

According to PAN, one of the graves belongs to a past prince named Kamran. A road project has been stopped in the area, where the grave exists.
