Afghan Brishna, USAID Sign Agreement

KABUL: (MEP) – The contract for installing of the second turbine of Kajaki hydro-power plant was concluded yesterday between the USAID and Breshna Company of Afghanistan.

The contract was signed by Abdul Razaq Samadi chairman of the Breshna Company with the representative of USAID in Afghanistan in presence of the deputy ministers of finance and water and energy, BNA reported.

The financial expenses of this project covering USD75 million will be provided by the USAID and will be implemented in two phases including assessment and provision of the facilities provided by the USAID.

The second phase includes installation of the new second turbine which will be completed by the end of 2015. Breshna company officials say that the Kajaki dam was constructed by a US company in 1353 (1974) and it is one of the two hydro-dams built up on the Helmand River at a distance of 161 km from Kandahar.
