Women unable to get voting card in Logar

KABUL: (MEP) – About eighty percent of eastern Logar province is threatened by the armed opposition, preventing the women from getting the voting cards, provincial officials said.

Head of provincial assembly, Abdul Wali Wakil, said the widespread presence of the insurgents would likely stop holding of fair elections.

In most of the areas, he added the women were unable to visit the registration centers and receive their voter cards.

“Definitely, the insurgents will likely disrupt the election process as eighty percent of the province is threatened by the armed oppositions. We have started our efforts to persuade the oppositions not to disrupt the national process as the polls are also in favor of them.”

Spokesman for the interior ministry, however, has rejected the statements of head of Logar provincial assembly, saying the security forces would not allow anyone to disrupt the election process.

“This is not right information. Our security forces are making every effort to provide security of the most important national event of election,” said Sideeq Siddequi.

75 kilometers to capital Kabul, Logar is located in the eastern zone and is one of the most unsafe provinces of Afghanistan.
