Not signing security agreement will cause crisis in Afghanistan

KABUL: (MEP) – A number of Afghan citizens have said that if the security agreement is not signed, the consequence will be the complete withdrawal of International forces.  In turn, the total withdrawal will cause crisis and insecurity within the country.

Their statements followed the declaration of NATO General Commander Joseph Dunford, who said that if the security agreement is not signed within the determined timeframe, NATO will completely withdraw their forces from Afghanistan.

Kabul citizens have said, “The year of 2014 is a challenging time for Afghanistan.  In the event that the security agreement isn’t signed and all international forces leave the country, Afghanistan will return to the Afghan year (1370), or the Roman Calendar 1991.

A number of Balkh and Ghazni residents declared that an alliance with the United States of America is a golden chance, saying that if the opportunity were missed there would be a downturn in the economy of the country.

Some of the Nangarhar and Helmand residents believe that the withdrawal of the International forces from the country will result in the deterioration of peace within the country and with that deterioration; there would be an increase of terrorist activities by the anti-Government insurgents.

The statements of the Afghans from different provinces comes after the US Ambassador in Kabul recently dispatched a message to US President Barak Obama administration’s office that said that the signing of the security agreement would probably be delayed by President Karzai’s administration for now, and would need to be signed by the next President of Afghanistan.
