President rings bell to announce start of New Academic Year

KABUL: (MEP) – On the occasion of welcoming in the New Academic Year, President Hamid Karzai termed the enemies of education who prevent Afghan children from attending school as foxes.

At a gathering that included a number of Ministers and Afghan officials, President Karzai also warned anti- education groups about pursuing their unrealistic ideals and asked them to enter into peace dialogues instead.

President Karzai said he believes that these disruptive groups have been deployed by outsiders with a goal to prevent Afghan children from pursuing an education.

He also spoke about his achievements during the past 12 years in the field of education where over 11 million students have been provide an opportunity to pursue an education. He went on to add that there were still 13 million children who did not have access to education in the country.

Mr. President has also spoken about engaging in peace talks with the Taliban and about his belief that the next Government would be extremely effective in leading the country forward.
