UN pins hopes on successful election in Afghanistan

KABUL: (MEP) – The United Nation expressed hope that the Afghan election will be held in an acceptable manner.

In a UN Security Council meeting, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Afghanistan emphasized that great preparations had been made for the Presidential and Provincial Council election in Afghanistan.

Yan Kubish, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Afghanistan said, “After all the detailed preparations that have been made for holding the elections in Afghanistan, the result of this election should be acceptable to all parties.”

He added that notwithstanding security concerns in some areas, the people of Afghanistan should participate in the election process and decide the future of their country.

UN representative noted that there is no external intervention or a plan for intervention in this election.

According to Kubish, the United Nations is not overseeing the Afghanistan election, but is cooperating technically.
