Above 1,500 Afghan Soldiers Martyred Since The Beginning Of The Year

KABUL: (Middle East Press) over 1,523 Afghan National Police (ANP) and Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces have been martyred in various incidents since the start of the year, Interior Minister Mohammad Omar Daudzai said Tuesday.

Daudzai was summoned by Afghan senate house along with defense minister and representative of the Afghan intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Tuesday.

He said at least 2,506 others were also wounded following insurgents attacks, roadside bombings and other insurgency related activities during this period.

In the meantime, Daudzai said at least 5,503 insurgents were killed and 2,370 others were injured during the operations.

He also added that Afghan national security forces have managed to repel major attacks by Taliban insurgents despite the number of coalition forces have steadily decreased putting the Afghan forces in the lead.

Daudzai said around 145,000 coalition forces were stationed in the country last year, while the number has now decreased to 33,000 forces.

He urged international community to further reinforce the Afghan national security forces by helping Afghanistan with the equipping process.
