Afghan Elections “Biggest Victory Against Taliban”

KABUL: (MEP) – The people of Afghanistan with their participation in the elections have achieved biggest victory against the Taliban, said former US diplomat.

Served as United States Ambassador to Afghanistan (2005-2007), Ronald Neumann expressed the security situation of Afghanistan was getting improved day by day.

He called on the Afghan Army and Police to preserve the biggest achievement and make every effort to stop insurgent groups from disrupting the security situation.

“Elections were a major success for the people of Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan have achieved a great victory against the Taliban. I think our relations will be strengthened with whoever wins the election. The question is how the Afghan Army will protect the gains,” Neumann stated.

He believed the new Afghan President would sign the bilateral security agreement between Kabul and Washington as he said he had met all the Presidential candidates.

The April 5 Polls for Presidency remained inconclusive as none of the candidates obtained 50+1 percent of votes cast on the Election Day.

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Thursday formally confirmed the runoff for Presidential Election which will be held on June 14 and the results will be announced on July 22.
