KABUL: (MEP) -The foundation stone for a new building for Afghanistan’s embassy in Islamabad was put on Monday, an official said, Pajwok reporte.
During his visit, President Hamid Karzai was to lay down the foundation stone, but he did not participate in the ceremony. Instead Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul performed the task.
Zardasht Shams, the Afghan embassy spokesman in Islamabad, told Pajhwok Afghan News the compound would be constructed in three years.
He said $13.8 million had been allocated for the building, which would be jointly constructed by Afghan and Pakistani firms.
The compound being constructed on seven acres land would include offices with all modern facilities and residential blocks for the ambassador and the rest of staff, he added.
During the government of late president Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan, the land was denoted for the embassy.
