Afghan President receives credentials of Iranian Ambassador

KABUL: (MEP) – President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai has accepted credentials of new Iranian Ambassador to Afghanistan Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Afghanistan’s Presidential Press Office reported.

According to the report, President Karzai and Iranian diplomat discussed bilateral relations during the meeting, trend reported.

Karzai expressed hope that, reappointment of the Bahrami as Iranian Ambassador to Afghanistan will take positive effect on boosting mutual relations.

In September 2007, Afghan President Hamid Karzai awarded Bahrami with the highest state order, Ahmad Shah Massoud Badge of Honor, in his farewell meeting at the end of his diplomatic mission in the country.

Bahrami, in his turn, said that, Iran’s new administration has a special respect to Afghanistan.

He also underlined that, Iran is studying the possibility of extending Afghan refugees` residence documents.

He also underlined that an economic delegation from Iran which is interested on investment in Afghanistan is scheduled to visit the country in the new future.

According to available statistics, over three million Afghan refugees are living in Iran.
