KABUL: (Middle East Press) Afghanistan held first position in an international carpets and rugs exhibition organized in China among the international carpet weavers and producers.
Officials in the Ministry of Trade & business and Afghanistan Export Promotion Agency said around 150 countries had participated in the international exhibition.
Deputy Trade & business Minister Mozamil Shenwari said two Afghan companies held first position in design and weaving of carpets in the exhibition due to the designs and quality of the carpets.
The exhibition was organized from 6th to 11th August in Tibet city of China where 15 companies had participated from Afghanistan.
He said Afghan companies managed to secure contracts with the foreign companies during the exhibition, which amounts to USD 1 million.
Najila Habibyar, head of the Afghanistan Export Promotion Agency said the export of rugs and carpets to global markets including USA, Germany and China has increased by 21 percent.
She said the amount of rugs and carpets export last year was around two billion Afghanis and they expect the amount will increase more this year.
