KABUL: (MEP) – A former State Department diplomat says that Afghanistan’s candidacy to become a member of the UN Security Council is not likely to succeed.
According to this diplomat, India has sent a letter seeking for the nomination of membership in the UN Security Council.
Mahmud Sayqal, former deputy of the foreign ministry, said that Afghanistan may have the chance for membership in the UN Security Council within 8 years and should not miss this opportunity.
Afghanistan is a permanent member of the UN but is not likely to become one of the members of UN Security Council until it will be able to participate in providing peacekeeping forces, contribute to the UN budget, and demonstrate that it has low levels of internal security challenges, Ariana news reported.
