Chamber of Commerce holds national economic conference
KABUL: (MEP) – The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with other departments, has convened a national conference in Kabul to help create an environment for investment in the country.
According to officials, businessmen and economists from all over the country were present. Challenges being faced by private investors were noted and possible solutions were evaluated. They also said that the conference is a forerunner to an economic debate between the Presidential candidates.
Chamber of Commerce officials consider rampant corruption among senior officials to be one of the main causes for the poor state of affairs in the Afghan economy.
They warned presidential contenders that the current uncertainty in the country would continue if the economic situation was not immediately improved.
Muhammad Qurban Haqjo, head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, “If you do not improve the economy of the country, you will always be poor and in need of help from others who may have intentions of looting our resources”. Working committee members have prepared their comments and are all set to present them to the presidential candidates during the debate on economic policies to be conducted by the Chamber of Commerce.
