Change In Constitution On Peace Talks Impossible: Spanta

KABUL: (MEP) – National Security Adviser to President Hamid Karzai, Rangin Dadfar Spanta, has warned of accelerating combat against insurgent groups if they didn’t answer to the peace demands of Afghans.

Dr. Spanta expressed these statements in a seminar held by Kabul women on “Afghan Women Call for Ceasefire and Peace.”

Referring to the ceasefire with the armed groups, Spanta declared it was impossible to bring a change in the Constitution to start peace talks with the Taliban.

“In one hand we must effort for achieving a stable peace but on the other hand we need to defend our dignity with combating those groups that are not renouncing violence,” Spanta commented.

“If they want changes in Constitution as precondition for peace then let me say it is impossible.”

Also present at the event, the chairman of high peace council Salahuddin Rabbani urged the past decade gains would not be the victim of peace talks.

Meanwhile, a number of women activists called on the government, international community and Taliban to find solutions to the violence continued in the country for many decades.
