KABUL: (Middle East Press) China has pledged support to better improve relations between Kabul and Islamabad through Beijing’s negotiation for building trust between the two nations.
The obligation was made Chinese President Xi Jinping during a gathering with President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Tuesday.
Mr. Jinping said he will also call on Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members to focus on cooperation with the Afghan government.
He said China is expecting to witness peace, stability and unity in Afghanistan.
Having significant roles in the region, China is quietly preparing to play a key strategic role in the future of Afghanistan.
China has so far committed around $250 million to the reconstruction of Afghanistan following the decrease of the Taliban regime in 2001, but had limited security support to Afghanistan which was only focused on counter-narcotics training.
China has a $700 million agreement to drill for oil in the Amu Darya Basin and a $3 billion deal to develop the Aynak copper mining project.
