KABUL: (MEP) – The German defense minister has called on Afghan President Hamid Karzai to ink the bilateral security agreement with Washington which he is delaying due to his conditions.
In his visit of Mazar-e-Sharif where German troops are stationed, Thomas de Maiziere urged the Afghan government should not wait for new government to sign the pact.
He stated that the delay in the signing of the security agreement was not in the interest of Afghanistan.
“We are waiting urgent signing of the security agreement. We are ready for all options but not inexhaustible. The continued presence of troops and their shifting need preplans.”
Thomas de Maiziere demanded the Afghan government to ink the agreement ahead of elections in order to let the international community draft their future plans, Ariana news reported.
Germany has 3,300 troops stationed in Afghanistan. It has promised to keep its 800 soldiers in the country after 2014.
