KABUL: (MEP) – The government of Afghanistan announced that a number of Bagram prisoners will be released based on decision taken by judicial institutions of the country.
Aimal Faizi, spokesman for President Hamid Karzai, told reporters that the prisoners are not released on the instructions of the Afghan review board, which was appointed president Karzai to review the cases of prisoners.
Faizi rejected the statement by US Force in Afghanistan and said the statement by USFOR-A, which claims that the prisoners are released on the orders of the review board, is incorrect.
According to Faizi, the decision regarding the freedom of certain prisoners from Bagram was taken during a meeting attended by officials of the judicial institutions on 27 December last year.
Faizi said that the Afghan intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) presented its findings regarding the 88 prisoners, which revealed that only 16 prisoners were involved in insurgency activities.
He also criticized the statement by US Forces in Afghanistan and said such a statement is against the international principles, since the foreign countries do not have the right to question the decision of a sovereign nation.
Faizi emphasized that the US Forces in Afghanistan do not have adequate evidences to prove their claims regarding the prisoners.
