KABUL: (Middle East Press) Germany has reconfirmed commitment to persist supporting the re-enactment of Afghanistan by pledging €430 million in national reconstruction until 2016.
The German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in a conference with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani that Germany will remain committed in Afghanistan even after 2015.
Steinmeier further added Germany will invest €430 million in national reconstruction until 2016.
President Ghani visited Germany on Friday to meet with the country’s representatives after attending the London Conference on Afghanistan.
Speaking during a press conference, the German chancellor Angela Merkel said Berlin stays committed to hold up Afghanistan following the NATO pullout.
Merkel said Germany will help Afghanistan in training the Afghan security forces and development projects.
Germany has been one of the main suppliers to rebuilding of Afghanistan since the drop of the Taliban regime in 2001.
Germany contributed around 5000 forces in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan and is presently having around 1,500 soldiers placed in the country.
