Hanif Atmar In Tehran For Two-Day Visit

Hanif Atmar in IranMEP: Afghan National Security Advisor, Mohammad Hanif Atmar, in a two-day visit at the invitation of Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, has arrived in Tehran.

During the meeting with Ali Shamkhani, Atmar said “countering extremism and terrorism requires regional cooperation and interaction between all countries”.

While referring to Kabul’s intention on pursuing cooperation with the Supreme Council’s document, Atmar called for enhanced cooperation, particularly with neighboring countries to establish sustainable security at the borders and help fight terrorism and drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, Shamkhani, stating to the need for a broad and strategic cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan and continuing security talks between the two countries, stressed on achieving maintainable solutions for security along the common borders and the fight against terrorism.

He said the increased role of the Afghan security forces in providing security and stability, is something admirable and clear indication of the extent of activation of the capacity of Afghanistan security is in its territory.

Shamkhani also pointed to the ongoing dialogue between the two countries on the issue of territorial waters and how to contain it, added that water is one of the main factors of development in the border areas between the two countries and must be considered within the framework of the common right and as a factor in enhancing friendship and cooperation between the two countries on the path to frontiersmen prosperity.

The national security adviser trip to Iran comes as earlier he traveled to Russia and consulted about air equipment.
