KABUL: (MEP) – The Afghanistan Human Rights Commission expressed grave concerns over the increased number of cases of violence against women.
Rafiullah Baidar, spokesman for the human rights commission, said, “The reason for increased violence against women especially in Baghlan province is illegal armed groups and the interior ministry should pay serious attention to this issue.”
Humaira Ayoubi, parliament member, said, “The main reasons for this violence are Unemployment, addiction, lack of access to education, and low levels of literacy among men.”
Sidiq Sidiqee, spokesman of the ministry of interior, also said that not only illegal armed groups are involved in violence against women but also a number of the family members of the armed groups had also been arrested in these cases.”
Extrajudicial court hearings against Safuillah and Maryam for their stated crimes of running away from home, the murder of Zarmina by her husband using the weapon of an ax, cutting the lip and nose of Setara by her addicted husband, and the murder of a woman by her husband in Badghis province are some of the cases that are awaiting answers, Ariana news reported.
