IEC releases final list of secured polling stations
KABUL: (MEP) – The Independent Election Commission (IEC) has released the final list of secured polling centers. 6472 polling centers will be open to voters across the country while 750 centers would remain closed due to security threats. The Ministry of Interior Affairs has confirmed the numbers and has said that they are adequately equipped to provide security for the upcoming Presidential and Provincial Election.
During the joint debate on the Ariana News Channel and on Radio Azadi, the IEC Deputy, Abdul Rahman Hotak confirmed that around 750 polling stations across the country would remain closed due to security threats.
However, MOI spokesman, Sediq Sediqee has stated, “The Taliban is not capable of disrupting the upcoming Presidential and Provincial election which is to be held on April 5th, 2014.”
He went on to speak about those polling centers facing security threats which are located across 18 Provinces. He also emphasized that the Presidential and Provincial Election would take place as planned and the citizens of the country would get an opportunity to cast their valuable vote.
