Illegal oil import hurting government revenue: MoF

KABUL: (MEP) – The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has expressed deep concerns over still on-going import of illegal petroleum products, saying it is badly impacting the country’s revenue.

Low-quality petroleum products were still being imported illegally through five ports of the country and it was because of the open borders, MoF spokesman Abdul Qadir Gilani said.

“Low-quality petroleum products are being imported illegally. We want the cooperation of the security agencies to stop the illegal imports,” Gilani said.

The ministry of commerce and industries admits the problem but urges on coordination and cooperation among the government agencies.

“We have long borders with our neighbor countries like Pakistan and it is very hard to control a border of two thousand kilometers long. Anyhow, the citizens need to cooperate with the government to stop illegal import of oil products,” said Musafir Qoqandi, spokesman of ministry of commerce and industries.

Despite the installation of latest and modern facilities at the country’s ports to have a control on the imports, still 80 percent of petroleum products are being imported illegally.
