Increase In Divorce Statistics In Balkh Province

MEP: Local officials in northern Balkh say the divorce rate in the province has increased compared to previous years.

According to the continuation of violence against women in Balkh province, statistics of divorce by women has increased over the past year to 50 percent.

This year the divorce rate in the province has reached to 65 cases while at the same time last year, 35 cases were registered.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission has expressed concern saying all this is because of rising unemployment and a lack of awareness of women’s rights.

Nadra Bygzad an attorney to handle cases of domestic violence in relation to the increase of divorce in the province, said that due to the awareness of youth of the marriage, the statistics of divorce has increased.

While urging the government to stop the divorce in youth, Mrs Bygzad said “I request the government to expand the awareness of young people about marriage in order to prevent divorce from rising.
