International Maternity Conference held in Kabul

KABUL: (MEP) – The third International Conference under the theme of “moving towards quality healthcare for Mother and Child” was held in Kabul.

Public Health Ministry’s important officials and more than 400 healthcare professionals of national and international had attended the conference, the ministry said in the statement.

This conference was organized by the French Medical Institute for Children (FMIC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to discuss the new and innovative techniques for addressing current issues of maternal and child held, Wakht reported.

In here opening remarks, Dr. Suraya Dalil, the Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan referred to the Conference as an event of international standing, saying this conference reaffirmed the FMIC as a role model for other healthcare institutions in Afghanistan by bringing excellence in care to the people of Afghanistan.

She said; “the status of women and children in the country is a practical measurement of a nation’s progress and development. Indicators related to women and children’s health, nutrition, education, employment and over all their empowerment are measures reflecting a nation’s progress, development and prosperity”.

“We know that our strategies that we have developed jointly and implemented jointly   have been brought results to family in Afghanistan” the minister added.

Dr. Dalil further said that The Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) the Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS), as well as expansion of immunization programs, prevention and treatment of malnutrition, midwifery education, especially community based-midwifery education, combating communicable diseases, especially malaria and tuberculosis and child spacing and family planning, had been one of the tools and programs that had shown results.

Meanwhile, the Diplomatic Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDM) in Afghanistan, Nurjehan Mawani said that the presence here of high-level government officials was a testimony of the commitment of the Government of Afghanistan towards provision of high quality health care in the country and the AKDN through its health institutions and together with its partners was honored to contribute to these efforts.
