Marshal Fahim’s Death Won’t Impact Elections: IEC
KABUL: (MEP) – The Independent Election Commission stated the death of Marshal Fahim wouldn’t impact the elections though his death was an irreparable loss.
IEC spokesman Noor Muhammad Noor said Sunday that the elections would be held on time and the campaigns would also continue.
“This is a huge loss to the people of Afghanistan. But let me say that it will not seriously impact the elections,” Noor added.
First Vice President and former Jihadi leader Marshal Muhammad Qasim Fahim died on Sunday of heart attack—suffering from cardiac and diabetes disease for last several years.
President Hamid Karzai expressed his deep condolences over the death of his vice, announcing three-day national mourning with half-mast hoisting of national flag.
