Mine blast kills a farmer in Kandahar

KABUL: (MEP) – A 60-year-old farmer was killed when an insurgents’ planted mine went off on his way home from work in southern province of Kandahar, an official said Sunday.

The incident took place at about six Sunday morning, in Panjwaye district of the province, where the farmer left his orchard of grape vines and struck a mine on the way home, said governor spokesman, Jawid Faisal.

A similar incident took place last week in the same district, where a farmer was also reportedly killed as a result.

The insurgents  are used to plant mines on the way expected the Afghan and coalition security forces convoy cross, but mostly victimize civilians in restive areas of the country.
