MEP: Ministry of Public Health says that after more than two hours of a deadly suicide attack in Kabul in Zanbaq quarter, more than 20 people have been killed and about 319 others injured have been transferred to hospitals of the capital.
At around 8:20 am today a suicide attack ripped through a diplomatic zone of the city and the 17th road of Wazir Akbar Khan in the 10th police district.
Najib Danesh, Director of the Office of the Interior Ministry spokesman, wrote on his Facebook page that explosives had been placed in a water tanker.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Ismail Kawoosi, press officer of the Ministry of Public Health told the Middle East Press that 20 people are dead and about 319 injured have been transferred to Kabul hospitals.
He said because of the strength of the attack, the possibility of increasing casualties still exists.
Images in the social media showed dozens of blackened and burned out cars. More than 50 vehicles were destroyed.
In the same time, India’s envoy to Afghanistan, Manpreet Vohra, said the blast hit around 100 meters from India’s embassy “but we are all safe, all our staff, all our personnel are safe.”
He said that “the blast was very large and nearby buildings including our own building have considerable damage in terms of broken glass and shattered windows and blown doors etc.”
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi used Twitter to “strongly condemn the terrorist blast in Kabul.”
No group has yet said it carried out the bombing but the Taliban and Daesh have both been behind recent attacks.
