NATO officials disappointed security pact has not been signed

KABUL: (MEP) – US and NATO officials have said that the Afghan Government is setting more preconditions for signing the security pact. The officials have warned that further delays for signing the security pact will decrease the support coming from European countries.

NATO officials have said that without the security agreement the NATO mission will not be possible beyond 2014 in Afghanistan.  They warned if the security agreement isn’t signed they will have no soldiers beyond 2014 in Afghanistan.

NATO officials said, “Efforts to set new preconditions from the Afghan Government side have disappointed the NATO officials.”

The NATO civilian spokesman in Afghanistan, Christopher Chambez, said, “The sooner the security agreement is signed, the better for NATO.  All the plans for the new missions of NATO will then be applicable in Afghanistan.”

One of the westerns officials who didn’t want his name to be written said, “Though NATO wants to stay in Afghanistan at all costs, if the security agreement is not signed by the end of Feb 2014 most of the countries will withdraw their forces from Afghanistan and there will be no mission beyond 2014 in the country.”
