New Anti-Terrorism Quadrilateral Group Formed With Pakistan
MEP: After the quadrilateral talks with Afghanistan, United States, China and Pakistan failed; now another anti-terrorism quadrilateral group known as the Quadrilateral Cooperation and Coordination Mechanism (QCCM) with the presence of Pakistan was formed.
The group has been formed with military officials from Afghanistan, China, Pakistan and Tajikistan.
The meeting was attended by Qadam Shah Shahim, CGS Afghan National Army; General Fang Fenghui, Chief of Joint Staff Department of Central Military Commission; General Raheel Sharif, COAS Pakistan Army; and Major General E. A. Cobidrzoda, First Deputy Defence Minister and CGS Tajikistan armed forces.
They pledged to cooperate with each other in order to tackle terrorism and extremism during the meeting.
“The participants unanimously agreed that terrorism and extremism are serious threat to regional stability and … reiterated to cooperate for tackling these forces for peace and stability of all member countries,” a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting said.
Pakistan media reports that it was agreed to establish the QCCM in order to coordinate and provide mutual support limited to the four countries in the fields of counter terrorism, situation evaluation, intelligence sharing, counter terrorism capacity building, counter terrorism joint training exercises and personnel training.
The group’s emphasis on the implementation of a number of commitments comes as Pakistan had before already insisted on some commitments at the international summits but in practice has taken no action.
The typical example of the lack of practical breach of Islamabad on Afghan peace talks.
This dishonesty of Pakistan for talks, led to darken ties between Kabul and Islamabad.
The QCCM, it was agreed, would work through consensus. The new mechanism clarified that it was not targeted against any state or international organisation.
