Pakistani Officials Says Afghanistan-Taliban Peace Deal Possible
KABUL: (MEP) – Sartaj Aziz, advisor to Prime Minister of Pakistan urged Afghanistan government to have a calm policy for beginning peace process with Taliban.
The Pakistani official believes that peace is possible between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
“The Taliban has already established its rule in some Afghan districts, but it is Pakistan’s assessment the group will not be able to regain control of the whole country” after the foreign troops stage their planned withdrawal, Sartaj Aziz said.
The Pakistani advisor said there are about 350,000 Afghan security forces and the anti-Taliban northern alliance has also grown stronger, therefore, the Taliban would also be looking for a way out to end the conflict through the process of political reconciliation.
The High Peace Council rejected Sartaj Aziz’s statements and said, “It is Pakistan that must have a calm policy for starting the peace talks between Kabul and Taliban.”
Muhammad Qasem Esmaeel Yar, peace council’s advisor in foreign affairs said, “We have the calmness and everything in our policy. Pakistan should clearly say what they want us to do and what is their aim of having a calm policy.”
