Pakistan’s Sharif vows to work for peace in Afghanistan

KABUL: (MEP) – The newly elected Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday ruled out Pakistan’s support to militant groups involved in Afghan instability and said that Pakistan has always been supporting a united and peaceful Afghanistan.

Nawaz Sharif on Saturday instructed the foreign ministry officials to formulate strategy for comprehensive dialogue with India and Afghanistan.

He said the prosperity of “our own people” and promotion of cordial relations with neighbors was priorities of his government. “Our government wants cordial relations with all neighboring countries, including Afghanistan, Iran and India,” Nawaz Sharif added.

Sharif also added that Sartaj Aziz will be visiting Afghanistan to convey a clear message which will emphasize on Islamabad’s cooperation towards Afghan peace and implementation of stability across Afghanistan.

Sartaj Aziz foreign affairs advisor to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is due to visit Kabul today to meet with the Afghan officials and pave the way for President Hamid Karzai’s visit to Pakistan.

The visit of Sartaj Aziz would be the first high-level exchange between the two countries since the assumption of new government in Pakistan.

His visit to Afghanistan also comes amid growing objections by Afghan officials accusing Pakistan for being dishonest in Afghan peace process; also interfere in internal affairs of the country.
