Pentagon Confirms Death Of al-Qaeda Leader In Afghanistan’s Kunar

MEP: US Defense Ministry on Friday confirmed the killing of al-Qaeda leader in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon announced that an American military strike in Afghanistan last month, killed a senior al-Qaeda leader in the country.

Peter Cook, a Pentagon spokesman, said that “Faroq al-Qatani” a leader of al-Qaeda terror group in North East Afghanistan had been selected by the group’s chief to create safe havens in Afghanistan, was killed in the October 23rd attack in Kunar province.

Cook added that on the same day another al-Qaeda leader Bilal al-Utabi was also targeted in a series of drone strikes but there are no reports regarding the fate of al-Utabi as Pentagon press secretary say it will examine the fate of al-Utabi.

The report comes as the US Defense Ministry last week announced that it targeted the al-Qaeda position in north eastern parts of the country.
