Sayyaf leaves Afghan parliament for presidential polls
KABUL: (MEP) – Some reports says that, Abdul Rab Rasool Sayyaf has resigned from the Afghan parliament in a bid to formally file nominee for the future presidential elections.
He is the second Afghan lawmaker who has resigned from the Afghan parliament to run for 2014 presidential run-off. Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of Hezb-e-Wahdat Islami (Islamic Unity Party) of Afghanistan, and member of the Afghan parliametn resigned late September, Khaama reported.
Abdul Rab Rasool Sayyaf announced his formal nomination for presidential elections, a day after Dr. Abdullah Abdullah formally filed nomination with the Afghanistan independent election commission.
He was among the several other potential candidates who are due to file formal nomination for presidential elections. Other potential candidates include Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai who resigned from the secuity transitioon commission of Afghanistan in a bid to nominate and run for the elections.
Karzai’s elder brother Qayum Karzai, foreign minister Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, and Ali Ahmad Jalali are the other potential candidates who are expected to run for the presidential run-off.
