
The statement added that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Former President Hamid Karzai, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah and other high ranking leaders personally expressed their deep concerns over the deadly attack.
President Ghani said, the attack on “innocent people in the holy month of Ramaddan is an explicit enmity with Islam and its culprits are criminals who are bound by no rule and religion.
He wished urgent recovery for the injured people the number of which are said to be 31.
Meanwhile, Hamid Karzai said that this was an act of the foreign detractors of Afghanistan’s stability, national sovereignty and development.
He warns that such actions can not harm the independence of Afghans.
Separately, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah condemning the attack also highlighted security forces’ ‘bravery and professionalism’ in repelling the attack.
He stated that targeting parliament is attack on people and our heroes in security forces are committed to kill terrorists and secure the nation.
The attack began at around 10:30 am (local time) and lasted for about two hours. It started when a suicide bomber exploded his car bomb in front of the front gate of the parliament. Other militants started firing light and heavy weapons on the compound of the parliament from an under construction building.
