Senior police officers suspended following deadly Kabul attack

KABUL: (MEP) – The Interior Ministry of Afghanistan suspended three senior police officers over deadly suicide attack in capital Kabul which left at least 21 people dead.

Head of the police station for the 10th district of Kabul city along with the head of criminal investigation department (CID) and a commander of Police Forces Company were suspended by Afghan interior minister Mohammad Omar Daudzai following a deadly attack on a restaurant in the 14th district of Kabul city.

Afghan Interior Minister, Mohammad Omr Daudzai said Saturday that the three police officers have been suspended for their negligence on job as a group of suicide bombers attacked a Lebanese restaurant.

While speaking during a summit attended by provincial security chiefs, Daudzai said the interior ministry will investigate regarding the negligence of the three police officers.

Daudzai also added that the attack on Lebanese restaurant which left dozens killed including foreign nationals has created tensions among the Kabul residents.

At least 21 people including foreign nationals were killed after a group of three suicide bombers attacked the Lebanese Taverna restaurant in Wazir Mohammad Akbar khan area of Kabul.

The United Assistance Mission in Afghanistan confirmed on Saturday that four UN personnel were killed in the attack, while the International Monetary Fund following a statement also confirmed the death of IMF head in Afghanistan Wabel Abdallah.

The Taliban militants group in Afghanistan claimed responsibility behind the incident and said the attack was carried out in reprisal to US forces airstrike in Siah Gerd district of Parwan province which left at least 14 civilians dead, including women and children.
