Suicide car bombing on Afghan-NATO base leaves 6 militants dead

KABUL: (MEP) – A group of five Taliban militants attacked a joint military base used by Afghan and coalition security forces in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

According to local government officials, the incident took place early Saturday morning in Ghani Khel district.

The officials further added that all six militants were killed during the clashes which lasted for almost half an hour.

In the meantime, a spokesman for the provincial security commandment, Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal, said six Taliban militants were killed after they detonated a car packed with explosives near the Afghan-NATO military base in Ghani Khel district.

Mr. Mashraqiwal further added that the militants were looking to enter the military base compound, but they detonated the vehicle after they were recognized by security forces.

Without disclosing furhter information regarding the Afghan security forces casualties, he said, no civilians were killed or injured following the explosion.

Taliban group claimed responsibility behind the incident. Zabiullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban group claimed that heavy casualties were incurred to Afghan and coalition forces following the suicide attack which was carried out by Taliban bombers around 8am local time.
