MEP: While a number of provincial council members and local resident confirm the fall of Qala-Zaal district of Kunduz province into the hands of armed Taliban, but the local authorities say the allegations are baseless.
Sayed Assadullah Sadat, a member of the Kunduz provincial council in an interview with Middle East Press said that around 10:00 am today (6 May) armed Taliban captured the district.
According to him, the security forces had serious resistance with the Taliban in the district’s building, but the Taliban also eventually seized the building.
At the same time, Mahboobullah Saeedi, the district governor told the Middle East Press, intense fighting is going on around the district’s building.
According to him, the security forces have withdrawn from other areas of the district and only the building of the district is in the hands of government but the fierce battle going on around it.
The report in the seizure of the district comes as in the past few days and with the attendance of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of Hezb-e Islami, tensions have intensified about calling the Taliban “brothers or not brothers”.
