The Wednesday’s blast came a day after 11 people were killed in a bombing in Istanbul, targeted the police station in the town of Midyat, north of the Syrian border in the mainly Kurdish region.
In televised comments, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said: “One police officer and two citizens have been confirmed dead so far.”
Images carried by Turkish media showed a massive plume of black smoke rising from the rubble of the severely-damaged police station.
Tuesday’s attack was the fourth on Istanbul this year, dealing another blow to the tourism industry.
