U.S. Airstrike Kills Civilians In Nangarhar

MEP: Local officials in eastern Nangarhar province announced that a number of civilians were killed in an air strike by foreign forces in Sherzad district. But resolute-mission officials say they are investigating the report.

On Friday the Afghan Air Force along with resolute-mission forces in support of ground forces launched an air strike on armed Taliban positions in the Sherzad district of Nangarhar province.

Attaullah Khogyani, Nangarhar governor’s spokesman confirmed the attack, saying as a result of bombing the house of Mawlawi Mohammad Alam, one of the commanders of armed Taliban, a number of civilians were killed and wounded.

He did not however provide information on the exact number of these casualties.

Meanwhile, the press office of resolute-mission told the Middle East Press that its air force members along with Afghan Air Force participated in the operation.

The source said they have initiated an investigation regarding the air raid.

This comes as US forces increased  airstrikes against the armed Taliban and Daesh loyalists earlier this year after the Obama administration granted a broader role to the American forces.
