‘U.S. Must Build Further Pressure On Pakistan’

MEP: Second Vice President during a meeting with America’s special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan urged to further pressure on Islamabad to fulfill its obligations towards peace in Afghanistan.

Sarwar Danish, Second Vice President held talks this morning with Richard Olsen in New York on the sidelines of the annual session of the United Nations.

Danish referred to Brussels conference approach and said the Afghan government’s preparations for the conference started long ago and President Ashraf Ghani a head of a high-level delegation will soon leave for Brussels.

“The acquisitions imminent agreement with the Islamic Party is an important achievement towards peace in Afghanistan” Danish said, adding that the talks in coordination with all parties and political figures were pursued and will continue to be tracked.

Meanwhile, the Vice President stressed that the peace process under the leadership of the Afghan government will pursue in such a way that people’s concerns remove and this process will have a real impact on improving the country’s security.

Second Vice President over Pakistan’s position on Afghanistan, expressed: “The government and people of Afghanistan expect that US put more pressure on the Pakistan government so Islamabad to act in compelling its commitment and bring the armed Taliban to the negotiating table as well as eliminating terrorist bases in its territory.”

He pointed out to the security threats of extremism and terrorism that has affected even different European countries and the US, calling for greater and stronger international cooperation in the fight against this phenomenon.

Danish also referring to electoral reform, said that despite numerous delays in electoral reform, fortunately the electoral law has been finalized and endorsed by President Ghani.

He also expressed hope that by reaching an agreement at national level, distribution of electronic ID cards will begin soon and the Population Registration Act to be finalized in collaboration with the National Council.

For his part, America’s special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan stressed that the United States strongly supports the full coordination with other international partners will reflect its support for the Afghan government at a conference in Brussels.

Olsen emphasized over the importance of pursuing the peace process in Afghanistan by Afghans and appreciated the government’s stance on political and security issues and the peace process.
